U.S., Iranian scientists meet in Finland on environmental issues

HELSINKI, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Dozens of environmental experts and scientists from the United States and Iran gathered in Porvoo, southern Finland on Monday for a two-day seminar on environmental issues.

During the seminar with a theme of "Towards New Solutions in Managing Environmental Crisis," attendees will follow several topics, including clean water, information exchange and challenges brought about by climate change.

As both the United States and Iran are facing significant environmental challenges, scientists from two countries hope to come up with concrete guidelines to assist their governments with decision-making.

It's also hoped that cooperation on the scientific front could help smooth out political relations between the two countries, which are immersed in a disagreement over Iran's nuclear ambition.

Finnish officials and experts will also attend the seminar, which is held by Finland's Helsinki University, the Finnish consultant firm Hellenberg and the Academies of Sciences of the United States and Iran.
